The easiest way to compare is by not using  <hěn> with “adjective”, because the function of hen is to stop “adjective” from comparing (as you know from the the section “to be”):

中国人很多

<Zhōngguórén hěnduō.>

Chinese-people (to be) many.

CHINESE PEOPLE ARE MANY.

中国人

<Zhōngguórén duō.>

Chinese-people (to be) more.

CHINESE PEOPLE ARE MORE.

那个很好吃,但是这个好吃!

<Nàge hěn hào chī, dànshì zhège gèng hǎo chī!>

That (to be) good (to eat), but this (to be) even better (to eat).

THAT IS GOOD, BUT THIS IS EVEN BETTER!

美国很大,可是中国大。

<Měiguó hěn dà, kěshì Zhōngguó gèng dà.>

America (to be) big, but China (to be) even bigger.

Degree/specification of comparison is placed behind the comparison itself:

这个比那个贵20块

<Zhège bǐ nàge guì 20 kuài.>

This compared to that (to be) more expensive 20 kuai.

THIS IS 20KUAI MORE EXPENSIVE THAN THAT.

HE IS 5 YEARS OLDER THAN ME.

   A 跟 B 一样   <A gēn B yīyàng>   [is the same as B]
A  WITH B has  ONE (the same)  [yàng] (FORM, SHAPE, PATTERN…).
Instead of  <gēn> WITH we can use  <hé> AND.
Or in the simplest form just  <yīyàng> itself.

他们两个一样

<Tāmen liǎngge yīyàng.>

They two the same.

THE TWO OF THEM ARE THE SAME.

她跟我一样

<Tā gēn wǒ yīyàng.

She with me the same.

SHE IS THE SAME AS I AM.

If things are equally something, word order is as follows:

他们一样大

<Tāmen yīyàng dà.>

They the same big.
