NOONE NOTHING

 _THIS IS A TESTING BETA VERSION OF THE SITE_

Question words turn into negative words in negative sentences: WHAT changes to NOTHING, WHO changes to NOONE, WHERE changes to NOWHERE

Inevitable part of this construction is the word 都 /dōu/ or 也 /yě/

This construction changes word order.

Compare:

I – LIKE – TEA

I – EVERYTHING (NOTHING) – NOT TO LIKE

BASIC STRUCTURE

Don’t forget the word 都 /dōu/ or 也 /yě/

I DON'T WANT ANYTHING.
<Wǒ shénme dōu bù yào.>
I DON'T KNOW ANYBODY.
<Wǒ shuí dōu bù rènshi.>
I‘M NOT GOING ANYWHERE.
<Wǒ nǎ'er dōu bù qù.>
I DON'T KNOW ANYONE (AT ALL) IN BEIJING.
<Wǒ zài Běijīng shéi dōu bú rènshi.>

3-COLUMNS STRUCTURE

Question word and 都 /dōu/ (or 也 /yě/) are like two pillars.

We can put another word in between them.

I DON'T HAVE ANY PROBLEM.
<Wǒ shénme wèntí dōu méiyǒu.>
I HAVEN’T BOUGHT “ANY-THING”.
Wǒ shénme dōngxi dōu méi mǎi.

ALTERING THE QUESTION WORD

Instead of question words we can use words like 一个 /yīge/ ONE  and 一点 /yīdiǎn/ A LITTLE, to say NOONE or NOT EVEN A LITTLE

I DON'T HAVE A SINGLE CHINESE FRIEND.
<Wǒ yīge Zhōngguó péngyǒu yě méiyǒu.>
YOU DON'T WANT EVEN A LITTLE?
<Nǐ yīdiǎn yě bù yào ma?>
I DON'T WANT EVEN A LITTLE BIT.
Wǒ yīdiǎn yě bùyào.
I DIDN’T DRINK EVEN A BIT OF COFFEE.
Wǒ yīdiǎn kāfēi yě méi hē.

POSITIVE FORM

If there is no negation in the sentence, then it means exactly the opposite:

NOTHING changes to EVERYTHING, NOONE to EVERYONE etc.

HE KNOWS EVERYTHING.
Tā shénme dōu zhīdào.
HE IS ABLE TO DO EVERYTHING.
Tā shénme dōu huì zuò.
I KNOW EVERYBODY HERE.
Wǒ zài zhèli shéi dōu rènshì.
